Single-family home or private garage: every case is different
If you live in a house or single-family home, the charger usually goes next to the garage door or on the front of the house, with a short run from your electrical panel. If you live in a flat but have an exclusively owned parking space (not shared), the installation is just as straightforward legally, although the wiring may be somewhat longer if your space is far from your meter.
In both cases, the installation is entirely yours: you don't depend on any homeowners' association or any prior notification, because the space is for your exclusive, private use.
What's included in your home charger installation
We don't just hang the wallbox on the wall. Every home installation involves checking your current electrical installation, choosing the least invasive cable route, and documenting everything so you can prove it if you ever sell the house or apply for a grant.
- Study of the best location (garage, front of house or carport): the shortest possible cable route, so you don't pay extra for unnecessary metres.
- Check of your electrical panel and current protections: we know whether your installation can handle the charger before we start, with no surprises halfway through the job.
- Wiring and conduit to the charging point: a tidy installation, with no unnecessary breakage or visible building work.
- Certified wallbox with a Type 2 connector: compatible with any current electric car, no adapters or compatibility surprises.
- Certificate (CIE) and registration with the Industry Authority: you'll need it if you ever apply for grants or sell the property.
- App setup and a walkthrough of the equipment: you'll know how to schedule your charges without having to call us.
3.7 kW or 7.4 kW wallbox?
3.7 kW (single-phase)
Enough for overnight charging in most cases: in around 8 hours you can recover a good part of the battery. It's the most affordable option and the one that's least demanding on your electrical installation.
7.4 kW (single-phase)
Cuts charging time in half compared with the 3.7 kW unit. Worth considering if you drive a lot, want margin to charge during the day too, or might get a second electric car in future.
During the site visit we check your contracted power and electrical panel to confirm which option fits without needing extra building work.
How much your bill goes up, and how to charge during off-peak hours
Charging your car at home is always cheaper than doing so at a public point, and even more so if you schedule the charge for off-peak hours on a time-of-use tariff (usually overnight). The wallbox can be set to start automatically when the cheapest period begins.
The real impact on your bill depends on how many kWh you use each month, which in turn depends on the mileage you cover. As a reference, typical use of an electric car usually means around 250-350 kWh per month.
We help you choose a tariff
If you're not sure which tariff suits you best for charging your car, we can advise you on what to ask your energy supplier before signing up.
Indicative price for installing a home charger
The final price mainly depends on the distance between your parking space or garage and the electrical panel. These figures are indicative; we always confirm the final quote in writing after the site visit.
